Here are the latest jurisdiction process updates for Quebec and South Dakota:
In Quebec, dealers will no longer be providing drivers with a metal plate at time of delivery. Drivers can expect to receive a registration and a provisionary plate valid for 45 days, which will have the new plate number until the metal plate arrives. The plate needs to be affixed to the windshield in a visible manner.
Previously established subdivisions enabling mail routing will need to be recreated by clients using the SAAQ website listed below:
Clients will need a vehicle listing to create the subdivision by mailing address. Or if preferred, Wheels can handle the set-up with an executed POA. Clients should confirm a subdivision has been created based on the appropriate Wheels office that they use. For each address, there is a link to download a POA which can be filled out and mailed to Wheels.
After subdivision set up, SAAQ will mail plates to the appropriate Wheels office. Wheels will send plates with the most cost-effective trackable mailing option to the address on file.
This information is subject to change as the SAAQ offices develop this process. As changes occur, Wheels will communicate the updates.
As of January 1, 2023, South Dakota has begun issuing a new license plates for renewed registrations and new vehicles being plated or entering the state for the first time. The new plates follow past design models promoting South Dakota.
