Due to the global shortage in semiconductors, General Motors, Ford and Stellantis (FCA) have announced temporary assembly plant closures to allow semiconductor availability to increase. These automakers are working closely with suppliers to address the shortage and will review availability to assess production capacity on a weekly basis. Unexpected plant downtime can typically result in extended lead times or order cut-off dates being pulled forward. Please remember to order early whenever possible to avoid disruption to your fleet.
The following assembly plants will take downtime starting on February 8:
General Motors
The following locations will be taking downtime on all shifts:
- Fairfax plant in Kansas City (produces Chevrolet Malibu & Cadillac XT4)
- CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario (produces Chevrolet Equinox)
- San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico (produces Chevrolet Equinox & GMC Terrain)
The Bupyeong 2 plant in Korea will operate at half capacity. The Bupyeong 2 plant produces Chevrolet Trax, Trail Blazer and Buick Encore.
Ford
- Ford’s Dearborn truck plant will run one of three shifts of production.
- Ford’s Kansas City plant will run two of three shifts.
- Both the Dearborn and Kansas City plants produce the Ford F-150 and are expected to return to three shifts for truck production the week of February 15.
- Ford’s Chicago (produces Ford Explorer and Police Interceptor) and Louisville (produces Ford Escape) plants were taken down February 1 but are expected to return to normal production this week.
Stellantis
