With registration busy season upon us and COVID-19 unfortunately still a factor, I want to provide an update on how the pandemic may impact your fleet’s ability to remain compliant this fall.
The Wheels Registration team remains fully operational and has begun the descent into the busy season as many jurisdictions have renewal blocks during the last four months of the year. This adds about a 30% increase to our standard work volume. We’ve begun proactively planning for the peak season by adding seasonal staffing support to manage the increase in volume.
Potential Impacts To Vehicle Registration: Fall 2021
Since March, COVID-19 has impacted registrations in the U.S. and Canada. Officials believe there may be additional impacts with the start of flu season and if the COVID-19 case count rises. As a result, we are preparing for delays — and possible closures — at Department of Motor Vehicle and Ministries of Transportation offices. Currently, all offices in the U.S. and Canada are open with the exception of Puerto Rico, which has closed some jurisdictions due to positive COVID-19 cases.
As jurisdictions assess the conditions, we may also experience extensions on plates and temporary tags expiration dates.
Check Wheels’ COVID-19 Resource Center
To get ahead of any potential impacts, I recommend encouraging drivers to gather renewal documents and completing other requirements as soon as possible. Any impacts to U.S. and Canada jurisdictions will be reported on our COVID-19 Resource Center. Additionally, we will continue to provide transaction status in your Wheels Registration dashboard for state and province transfers and renewal requests.
