Ford Hail Damage Update
In March, thousands of Ford vehicles at their Kansas City hub, a crucial center for Transit vans, F-150s, and Mavericks, were hit hard by hail. This incident affected a wide range of stakeholders—Fleet Management companies, dealers, rental companies, and upfitters. Ford quickly put together a team to inspect and manage repairs for the damaged vehicles. Thousands needed attention, and among them, over 2,400 Wheels vehicles were inspected and repaired.
Our Wheels team has been in close coordination with Ford and our legal team to finalize the list of impacted vehicles and determine the necessary next steps. Unfortunately, some units have sustained damage that Ford did not repair, such as the roofs of Transit vans and the inside of pickup beds. Additionally, some vehicles were flagged by Ford as having damage that exceeds the disclosable amount for their state. For these vehicles, clients will have the option to either accept or decline them.
To proceed, clients with vehicles over the disclosable amount, will need to sign off on a direction letter indicating their decision. Our Client Management team is proactively reaching out to those affected to explain the situation and guide them through the process. As a gesture of goodwill, Ford is offering a special incentive for every damaged and repaired vehicle that a customer chooses to accept. Wheels will ensure this incentive is applied and passed directly to our customers.
