Executive Chairman of the Board
A native of Chicago, Jim joined Wheels in 1967 after receiving a BA from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Stanford Business School. He has served as CEO of Wheels since 1974, and also served as company President for 40 years.
Over the years, Jim has made countless contributions to the fleet management industry in a variety of different respects. He was instrumental in leading fleet management into the computer age by designing and implementing the first IT systems, which were used to collect a wide range of information and deliver that data to fleet managers in a way that helped them better manage their fleets. These systems became the foundation of the technology being used today to manage fleets across the U.S.
Jim has also been a strong industry advocate in major trade associations, having served as President, Board Member and Chairperson of the American Automobile Leasing Association (AALA). During his time as Chair of the AALA Federal Legislative Committee, he participated in numerous successful industry efforts aimed at helping shape regulatory and legislative issues affecting fleets, and delivered frequent testimonies at the House Ways and Means Committee, Federal Trade Commission and Department of the Treasury. Jim has also chaired an industry committee that represented the views of fleet users regarding federal personal use legislation and is presently Chairman of an AALA committee that is dedicated to addressing changes to lease accounting proposed by FASB.
Jim has also been a keynote speaker at numerous industry events – including NAFA and AFLA annual conferences – and has spoken at the Automotive News World Congress.
Jim is currently Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Chicago Hospitals, a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Chicago, Chair of the Intrinsic Network of Charter Schools and Chair of the Finance Committee of the Field Museum of Chicago. He also serves on the Board of the Illinois Network of Charter Schools (INCS) and on the Board of Overseers at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
