The state of the fleet industry has been quite trying these days. With fuel costs reaching an all-time high and carbon emissions on the rise, companies are seeking to become more sustainable. As a result, we’ve seen many clients adopting more electric vehicles (EV) to help reach their sustainability goals.
We recognize that there is no one-solution-fits-all since every client will have different goals. Regardless of what your goals are, here are six reasons why we see fleets making the transition to EVs:
- Almost Nonexistent Fuel Costs: The price for fuel is spiking nationwide, and this trend continues to grow. While this is a major concern for gas vehicles owners, EV owners can drive by the gas station without that rising number looming over their heads. Instead, they can just plug in at a fraction of the cost.
- Reduces Maintenance Costs: You can say goodbye to needing transmission flushes, oil changes, and spark plugs when you drive an EV. Even the brake life lasts longer for EVs! With fewer moving parts, these vehicles require less maintenance, which means you can save money while saving the planet.
- Longer Lifespan: The data show that electric vehicles outlive their gas counterparts. Battery replacement can be an expensive undertaking but remember that EVs require significantly fewer maintenance costs in the long run.
- Increased Driver Safety: With EVs tending to have their batteries closer to the bottom of the vehicle, they have a lower center of gravity. This improves driver handling and prevents the car from rolling over during a sharp turn.
- Better Driving Performance: There’s a term that goes around when people measure EVs to gas vehicles: torque. In short, it’s the result of force needed to rotate around a point (the armature in the motor). Due to the electric nature of EVs, they can create more torque in less time than gas vehicles. This means they can get from an idle position to high speeds at a much faster rate.
- Better for the Environment: In March 2022, researchers from the University of Michigan and Ford Motor Company published a study that proves “light-duty, battery-electric vehicles have about 64% lower cradle-to-grave life cycle greenhouse gas emissions than internal-combustion-engine (ICE) vehicles on average across the United States.” Read the entire study here.
