This prestigious award recognizes 100 organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).<\/p>\n
Wheels was honored for its Mobile Assistant app that enables drivers of company-provided fleet vehicles to view important fleet-related records and activities, record business mileage, contact roadside assistance, and much more on their mobile devices. By applying advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) applications to existing smartphone technology, Wheels Product Innovation team created a productivity-enhancing tool that streamlines recordkeeping and reduces the time needed to perform routine tasks.<\/p>\n

The app also uses machine learning and AI algorithms to alert drivers to tasks that need their attention, or data that needs verification. Augmented reality data capture using the smartphone\u2019s camera, combined with optical character recognition routine, converts odometer photos into numbers that are displayed on their screen to assist with data entry.<\/p>\n
The Wheels Mobile Assistant was built by the company\u2019s internal \u201cskunkworks\u201d division, a multi-discipline team focused on creating game-changing innovations to advance the fleet industry.\u00a0 Based on field usability research with fleet drivers, the team\u2019s data scientists built special algorithms that optimized the app, maximizing driver productivity and enhancing their experience.\u00a0 For example, users are able to accurately enter monthly mileage certifications in 60 seconds or less.<\/p>\n
The 2018 CIO 100 Award recipients were selected by a team of external judges (many of them former CIOs) based on use of leading-edge IT practices and measurable results.
