UAW reaches tentative deal with GM, turns attention to Ford
The United Auto Workers union has reached a tentative agreement with GM on a new four-year national labor deal. GM workers are expected to complete a ratification vote for the deal next week.
Meanwhile, the UAW has begun final negotiations with Ford after final contract talks with Chrysler stalled on Wednesday. The UAW and Chrysler reportedly agreed on some aspects of a new deal, but remained apart on certain economic issues. So the sides agreed on Wednesday to an additional four-week extension of Chrysler’s existing contract with the UAW, while the union turned its immediate attention to finalizing contracts with Ford.
Vehicle production continues at all manufacturers as UAW members have agreed to keep working as contract talks continue.
Wheels remains in constant contact with the manufacturers, and we are following the progress of the negotiations very closely. We will continue to keep clients apprised of any major developments.
