CAW labor agreements with manufacturers set to expire in September

The Canadian Auto Workers’ current labor contracts with Chrysler, Ford and General Motors are scheduled to expire in September 2012.

Negotiations for new agreements will take place over the summer, though the CAW has not yet announced full details of its anticipated timeframe, including the order in which it will negotiate with each manufacturer.

While there are currently no indications that the talks will result in any kind of significant work stoppage, the nature of labor discussions is such that clients should be prepared for sudden changes in the availability of certain models as the current labor agreements’ expiration date approaches.  Below is a list of the Chrysler, Ford and GM fleet models that are built in Canada:

Chrysler
Chrysler 300
Chrysler Town and Country
Dodge Caravan
Dodge Challenger
Dodge Charger
Dodge Ram C/V

Ford
Ford Edge
Ford Flex
Lincoln MKT
Lincoln MKX

GM
Buick Regal
Cadillac XTS
Chevrolet Camaro
Chevrolet Equinox
Chevrolet Impala (including Impala Police)
GMC Terrain

Wheels remains in constant contact with the manufacturers, and we will follow the progress of the contract negotiations very closely.  We will keep clients apprised of any major developments.
